What inspired me to do this Glass Vase and repurpose a vintage Crochet DIY Project?
I have used inherited crochet placemats and pillowcases in my other posts. But I wanted to change it up and try a glass cylinder vase. Check out my posts below.
What supplies did I use to make this project?
The supplies are pretty simple to find. Supplies used:
- Glass cylinder vase - 8 inches height by 4 inches wide
- Vintage crochet placemat with a pattern and edging
- Mod Podge (affiliate) matte finish
- Sponge brush
- Green/beige ribbon (1 inch wide)

How much did it cost to make this Glass Vase and repurpose a vintage Crochet DIY Project?
This DIY project cost me about $5.00 to make. I had the crochet, the glass cylinder, and the ribbon. However, I needed to buy more Mod Podge (affiliate).
How long did it take to make this diy project?
It took me about 4 hours - ½ hour to make and 3.5 hours to dry, or more.

How did I make this Glass Vase and repurpose a vintage Crochet DIY Project?
First, measure the glass cylinder against the edge of the placemat, crocheting starting from the corner of the placemat and moving to the left. If it is an older crochet, ensure the end of the crochet is finished and has a slight scallop at the edge. It gives it an elegant look without having to finish the top edge of the vase too much.

Then, cut the crochet ¼ inch longer than the length of the glass cylinder using fabric scissors (affiliate) for a clean cut.

Now, place some of the Mod Podge (affiliate) in a disposable bowl, add the sponge brush to the bowl, and apply it liberally to the cylinder. Do not get too much into the front of the crochet. It will discolor the crochet lace.

Next, keep the finished end piece overlapping the other crochet lace and apply a little more Mod Podge (affiliate).

Lastly, turn the glass cylinder over and add more Mod Podge (affiliate) to adhere the crochet to the bottom of the glass cylinder. Be sure to do this evenly throughout the glass vase so that it sits evenly on a surface. Let dry completely. It may take a few hours.
Then, turn the vase over, and if you'd like, you can add a ribbon to the top edge.
The Big Reveal
This Glass Vase and repurpose vintage Crochet DIY Project looks lovely.

Tips on making this project:
There are only a few things you need to know about this project.
First, do not overlay the Mod Podge (affiliate) over the outside (the part that shows) of the crochet lace. If you do, the Mod Podge will cause the lace to turn dark. I used a beige crochet placemat, and it does turn brown when exposed to this treatment. You can tell if you added the Mod Podge to the surface when it dries.
Second, it is essential to cut the crochet a little longer than the cylinder to make sure that the crochet lies under all sides of the vase. This will help keep it level and prevent it from tipping over.
I hope this inspires you to use that vintage, handmade crochet and display it proudly in your home. Leave a comment or question below. I would love to hear from you.
