I've been seeing a lot of Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Projects lately and wanted to make one myself. I had so many extra ones from my past gnome DIY projects, and I thought I would give it a try. It was pretty easy to make and fun too! I'm so glad. Feel free to check out the tutorial below on how I made it.

What inspired me to do this Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project?
OK - let's see. I wanted to make the cute Christmas trees I saw (affiliate) on social media and Pinterest, and I thought it would be fun. What I didn't realize is that I had to do a little planning before I started. But after the planning was organized, I was able to make it fairly quickly.
What supplies did I use to make this Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project?
I had most of these supplies in my craft area, so putting it together was pretty easy. Supplies used:
- Felt-textured green sheet
- Scissors (affiliate)
- Foam cone medium size
- Glue - foam glue or Elmer's Glue (I don't recommend it, it slides too much)
- Candy-strip red-and-white ribbon, ¼ inch wide.
- White balls, ribbon, medium-sized
- Clear crystal snowflake 2 inches by 2 inches
- Bronze Upholstery Tacks to hold the foam sheet to the foam cone
- 3 Planner binder rings - I used old ones, 2-inch wide for the base

How much did it cost to make this Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project?
This project cost me about $3.00. I had everything, so I didn't need to buy anything. All the things i used for this project was in my craft area.
How long did it take to make the Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project?
It took me about 4 hours. It was mainly drying time for the textured felt sheet on the cone.
How did I make this Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project?
First, I gathered all the supplies together. Then, I took the cone and started wrapping it around the back of the Felt-textured sheet (green). Next, with a marker, I draw a line to create the shape that covers the cone completely, plus about 1 inch.

Then, with scissors (affiliate), I cut out the shape.

Now, I glued it on the back and adhered it to the cone. This part took some time to dry.

I then added a few pieces of tape to keep it from opening while it was drying. Then, when the tape didn't work, I decided to use upholstery tacks I had in my sewing area. It worked really well. Pro Tip: Do not use Elmer's glue. I did, and it took FOREVER to dry and kept sliding off the cone. It was so frustrating. Stick with foam glue.

Meanwhile, I decided to create a base by using three binder (affiliate) rings from Levenger that I had, and I used Gorilla Glue Clear Grip. I added glue to the edges, stacked them on top of each other, and let them dry. It worked well.

The next day, I wrapped the candy (affiliate) cane ribbon around the glued-together binder (affiliate) rings and used more of the Gorilla Glue to adhere it to the bottom of the Christmas Tree foam.
Now it was time to decorate. I started from the bottom, wrapped the ribbon with the cotton balls, used the upholstery tacks to press it into the foam, and worked my way around, using the tacks to hold the ribbon in place.

Lastly, I added the Acrylic snowflake to the top of the cone Christmas Tree using a little hot glue - just because it was quicker.
The Big Reveal
This Styrofoam Christmas Tree looks so cute. What do you think? I love the contrast between the green and the white.

Tips on making this Styrofoam Christmas Tree DIY Project
Here are a few tips to make your very own Christmas tree easily.
- Use a glue that works with foam. Some glues do not work well with foam cones.
- If you can find them, buy felt sheets with adhesive backing. Then you do not need any glue.
- Pick the ribbon with cotton balls that are closer together, and that dangle a little lower than the ribbon to help them be seen.
I hope this DIY project brings joy to your home this holiday season. Enjoy and have a great holiday.
