Whether you make a quesadilla bar during weeknights for a quick meal or during a sporting event, like the Super Bowl, a quesadilla bar is a great way to eat an easy, quick and healthy meal. This past weekend, I prepared a quesadilla bar for my family. We love quesadillas. We have them in our home all the time. Since the Super Bowl was coming up, I thought this would be a time to do this meal. Here is how to make a quesadilla bar.
First, I gathered the basic ingredients and put them together in small bowls so everyone could see the options for their individual quesadilla.
We love our weekly quesadilla bar. It usually features all the leftovers we had for the week in small manageable amounts to make it more enticing. Check it out and see how you can make your very own customized quesadilla bar. What can you make this week? Please share your favorite ingredients below.
Here are the items I included in my Quesadilla bar:
6-inch tortillas (whole wheat, gluten-free, regular)
½ - 1 cup Monterey Jack shredded cheese (fine shreds)
½ cup Salsa (Mild, medium, or spicy, your choice)
2 tbsp. Scallions
1 - 2 cups of cooked chicken (finely chopped)
½ cup of Refried Black Beans
½ teaspoon jalapeño
Optional:
½ cup sautéed yellow onions
3 tbsp. barbecue sauce
Dipping sauce:
½ cup guacamole
½ cup Salsa (Mild, medium, or spicy, your choice)
1 tbsp. light sour cream
Ingredients
- 2 packages of 6-inch tortillas (whole wheat, gluten-free, or regular)
- 1 cup Monterey Jack shredded cheese (fine shreds)
- ½ cup Salsa (Mild, medium, or spicy, your choice)
- 2 tbsp. Scallions
- 2 cups of cooked chicken (finely chopped)
- ½ cup of Refried Black Beans
- ½ teaspoon jalapeño
- Optional:
- ½ cup sautéed yellow onions
- 3 tbsp. barbecue sauce
- Dipping sauce:
- ½ cup guacamole
- ½ cup Salsa (Mild, medium, or spicy, your choice)
- 1 tbsp. light sour cream
Instructions
- Set up all the ingredients in little bowls.
- Get two tortillas. Then, fill with your favorite fillings. If you use refried beans, be sure to spread them on the tortilla first.
- Then, pick which way you want to heat it.
- Here are two options for heating up your quesadilla: 1. Saute on a nonstick pan time to cook varies depending on how much filling you put in it. This could take 3 minutes to 5 minutes. Be sure to turn it over halfway through. 2. If you use the microwave, it could take 1 minute to 3 minutes depending on how much filling you put inside. Start with 1 minute and reheat if it is still cold.
- Cut with a pizza cutter and enjoy!
Note: If you use refried black beans, spread them on first.
My husband and I like our quesadillas toasted so we use a nonstick pan. My kids like to heat their quesadilla in the microwave.
Here is the quesadilla I made for me. I placed my tortilla in the nonstick pan and proceeded to add my filling. Then, I added the top tortilla. About a few minute later (after the bottom was toasted a light brown), I turned it over with a spatula. And, waited a few minutes more. I checked the bottom and peaked inside to see if the cheese melted and the other items were heated through.
After heating my quesadilla through, I made a dipping sauce to go along with my quesadilla. To make the dipping sauce, first, add guacamole, then salsa, then a small amount of light sour cream. It's delicious with the quesadilla.
My husband took his quesadilla a step further. He added barbecue sauce and mixed it with the chicken and sautéed onions and created a barbecue quesadilla. Here is his quesadilla filling.
