When I first heard the Philly Home Show was going to happen on Valentine's Day, I told my husband, "You do not need to get me anything, all I want is to go to the Philly Home Show on Valentine's Day." So, we made a day of it. We took the kids and went into the city, visited the Home Show, walked around The Reading Terminal, and then had a lovely dinner at Fogo de Chao. The Philly Home Show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a two-weekend event and is happening today as well. You can buy tickets through their website. Here is my Philly Home Show Highlights. I had the opportunity to meet some of these great companies that help people get their home organized.
Here are some of the companies I spoke with:
ShelfGenie: I spoke with Leslie Arnold and she showed me how the kitchen cabinets could be used in all areas of the kitchen from cabinets to pantries. and make your kitchen cabinets more functional. They have lazy Susans that maximize the space and corner cabinets that allow you to use the back corner of the cabinets. Click on the image below to visit their Before and After page. You can find a location in your area by clicking on the image too.
Closet & Storage Concepts: They install closet, garage (Affiliate Link), office, laundry, and pantry (Affiliate Link) organizing systems. But what I really loved was their hideaway beds to help maximize a multipurpose room. We got to see it and it was sturdy and great for a small kids bedroom or family room that needs a place for a guest bedroom. Click on the image to see their website.
Garage (Affiliate Link) Craft Interiors: I particularly like the flooring coverings this company offers. My husband would love the car, though. LOL They offer craft wall systems and overhead garage (Affiliate Link) storage to hang tools (Affiliate Link), sports equipment, hold boxes (Affiliate Link), and cabinets. Click on the image below to visit their website.
Look at the lovely before and after garage (Affiliate Link) pictured below. Wouldn't you love to have your garage (Affiliate Link) look like this? I would. =)
At dinner, I asked them what they liked about the show.
My husband thought there were way too many windows and doors companies.
My daughter (14 years old) liked all the giveaways. =)
My son (16 years old) liked the whirlpools that were everywhere. They were like mini pools.

I liked looking at all the different companies knowing that I had improved pretty much everything in my home so it was more enjoyable to walk around and get inspired. The companies also offer specials just for the event days so I could get great deals.
I hope this gives you some insight on home shows and what they can do to help you get your home organized. NOTE: I did not get any money for this post. I wanted to share my experience.
If you have a home show in your area, have you ever visited? What was your favorite part of the home show? Were you looking for something particular? Please leave a comment below to share with my visitors.

Sabrina -- The before picture of the shelf genie looks very familiar (see my kitchen). I don't understand why home builders don't install these sliding cabinets when they build houses. Guess it's the added expense but it sure would be helpful if they did. Thanks for the tour.

Thanks for commenting, Jeannette. I really appreciate it.

I tell you being Oscar from the Odd Couple, it is not the storage that's the problem. I could have the best storage items in the world, it is taking the time to put them into them. I do however, love that garage.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post with us.

Home shows and RV shows are always a favorite of mine simply as a way to get new ideas. I like the ShelfGenie concept quite a lot, but when it comes to other storage solutions, I am the first person who will get rid of stuff rather than buy another shelf or container to put that "stuff" into.

Looks like fun. I don't know why, and I've never actually had one, but I've always liked the idea of hideaway beds. No home shows on my Island - it would be way too expensive to ship the stuff here and there just aren't that many home decor/furniture stores here to organize something on their own.

The Pittsburgh home show is in a few weeks. I asked Alex about going and he said: There are always too many window and door companies!
I may still talk him into it just for the pleasure of walking around and seeing if there are any of the nifty gems that you found.
Sabrina says
That is true, Rose Mary! There are lots of windows and door companies but you can always find those great companies that can help you too.

I guess it's some sort of suburban male instinct that the first thing I focused on was the garage stuff. I don't actually have a garage, but those floor coverings might work out well in my basement.

Unfortunately my kitchen cupboards looks a little like the first photograph .
Forget a garage that looks as great as that - I would take a garage full stop! Parking on an ordinary road is no fun at all. This is at the very top of our list when we move house.

Excellent examples, Sabrina. My cupboards look like a happy medium between the two photographs. Am very organised but have a tendency to overload drawers and cupboards.

I'm a big fan of these organizers! We redid the kitchen before we moved into our house, and I definitely installed some of those kitchen genies. They have made my life so much easier.

Sabrina, I can just imagine how much you enjoyed the Philly Home Show. Thanks for sharing some of the ideas - I love the bedroom and the kitchen corner cupboard is pretty neat. 🙂

Fun times! Both Shelf Genie and Closet & Storage Concepts are Associate Members at NAPO-CT. We love these connections with wonderful companies! I'd like the car too...

I used to regularly go to the home show in my area in March, but haven't for a few years because I am usually away in March. I loved seeing the designs and the ideas, even if I couldn't make use of them myself. Sometimes I did find something I could use or got a connection for something I purchased. I am particularly drawn to all the great ways to organize things. (Not that I am always that organized myself.) The pull-down Murphy bed is cool. My brother-in-law, who is a carpenter, built one in the bedroom they use as an office to have extra room for guests. Because there wasn't enough space available the way the room was laid out to have the bed pull down head to foot, he built the bed into the wall sideways so when it is pulled out one whole side is against the wall.
