What inspired me to do this diy project?
I always loved the upcycling jars I found on Pinterest and wanted to do one with a glass jar. I tried to customize it to match a knob I bought at Marshalls. It is helpful to store cotton balls and cotton swabs in the bathroom and on a vanity.
What supplies did I use to make this Repurposed Cotton Balls Glass Jar DIY Project?
There are only a handful of supplies I used for this project. Keep in mind you will need a way to drill (affiliate) a hole through the lid to screw the knob in. This is for decoration only. The jar has a screwed-top lid.
Supplies used:
- Salsa wide-mouth glass jar - clean and dry both
- 2 shades of purple acrylic paint, FolkArt Lavender and FolkArt Light Lavender
- FolkArt White acrylic paint
- Paintbrush for acrylic paint
- Purple glass cabinet knob
- FolkArt Satin finish 49907 - durable non-yellowing sealer

How much did it cost to make this Repurposed Cotton Balls Glass Jar DIY Project?
This project cost me about $7.00 that included the knob and the salsa jar; after I enjoyed the salsa, of course. =)
How long did it take to make the Repurposed Cotton Balls Glass Jar DIY Project?
This project took me about 4 to 5 hours, including drying time.
How did I make this Repurposed Cotton Balls Glass Jar DIY Project?
First, take off the label (affiliate) from the jar. Clean the glass jar. And let it dry completely.

Remove labels from a glass jar.
There are many ways to try removing labels (affiliate) from glass jars. Here are some I found that are worth trying. Hopefully, they will help you.
Method 1: Hot water and soap
It works well for paper labels (affiliate). Just be sure to remove all the glue residue. Here is a YouTube video to help.
Method 2: Baking soda and oil paste
This method is interesting. Use olive or coconut oil to form a paste, then let it sit, and use a scrub pad to remove and wash thoroughly with water and soap. Here is a YouTube video to help.
Method 3: Do a white vinegar soak
Here is a post to help. I have tried it before but it really didn't work for stubborn labels (affiliate).
Method 4: Rubbing Alcohol
Rub a small amount of alcohol on a cotton ball and wipe on the stubborn areas where the sticky spots will not come up.
Then mix lavender acrylic, light lavender acrylic, and white paint.

Now, paint the jar in each section. Then, turning it over, opening it, and painting the bottom. Let it dry completely, then apply a second coat. Let dry completely.

Meanwhile, using the same color of acrylic mix, paint the lid twice. Let dry completely.
Then add a final coat of FolkArt Satin finish 49907 - durable non-yellowing sealer using a paintbrush. And, completely dry.

Optional: if you want to add the knob to the top of the jar, you will need a hole punch, a hammer, and something to support the inside of the lid so it doesn't buckle the entire lid.
I used a small piece of wood to go inside the back of the lid. Then use the hole punch and hammer to make a hole in the center. Cut down the screw from the back of the cabinet knob. Then attach it through the hole in the lid and add the knot to the back. The inside of the lid before you use it, so it doesn't buckle. To cut the screw on the back of the knob, use a sharp saw (affiliate) with a fine blade.

The Big Reveal
This Repurposed Cotton Ball Glass Jar Idea Project looks adorable, and I can't wait to use it to organize my bathroom things. I decided to add a Bath Bombs (affiliate) label (affiliate) to the front. What do you think? Would you try it? If you love it, please share it everywhere.
