If you haven't read my blog for a while, you may not know that I share a vanity with my daughter in our shared bathroom. It's a great place to sit and take care of morning activities and it saves space having only one vanity in the bathroom but with a shared space, comes compromise. So, recently we went through this revision on how we can effectively organize our vanity. First, let me explain what my issue was with her stuff.
My daughter uses hair and facial products. My products are stored in my mirror cabinet so they are out of sight when not in use. Her supplies, however, are cluttering up the vanity top. As a result of this, I can't open the vanity without moving the supplies and knocking them over - usually on the floor. Ugh. Not fun. This would happen almost every morning. It was quite frustrating.
So, here is how we modified the vanity to make it more user-friendly for both of us.
Organizing Hair and Facial Products Cheaply
First, I measured the opening between the mirror to the wall on both sides of my vanity mirror. And, then went to the craft store to find the right bin. I found these cute chalkboard front bins for a $1.50 each. Score!
I used 2 nails for each and a hammer and hung the box on the wall so both sides were symmetrical with each other. And then I hooked the bin onto the nails so the nails would hold the box securely. It was so easy.
This gives me more space on the vanity top and we are both pleased with the outcome.
My daughter did a great job labeling the bins and then we added all the supplies into the appropriate bin.
If you want to read more about how I customized our vanity, feel free to read my other vanity organization posts. Here are the links below.

I love this post, as always, living in a small apartment, I like any ideas on organizing space. I like the idea of labeling, it makes you put things in the proper place, otherwise it eventually goes back to chaos. Thanks for sharing this with us.

How cute! I love that you got your daughter involved. The bathroom vanity definitely looks better now that it is less cluttered. And I personally love having bins to throw things into. It is such an easy way to stay organized.

In my book you are a saint to share a vanity with a teenage girl. My daughter shares a bathroom with her brother and despite my use of bins and boxes she still strews her things out along the entire countertop before she rushes out in the morning to her nanny job. I think having the bins completely accessible and out like you have would have work much better for us. Great idea!

It's not too bad because I get ready before her so we really don't cross paths unless I wake up late.

This is great. My niece has a vanity and it's always sort of a disaster area. I think I'll pass this post on to her 🙂

I don't have a vanity--just the small sink area. Lucky for me that my husband uses the masterbath and I use the hall bath. He blows up the sink area--if I had to contend with that every morning, we'd be warring entities!
I sure like the organization of this space! Cute!

Love the chalkboard labels! Your daughter definitely has an artistic touch. What a nice thing to share this space with your daughter. When my girls were little, all the girls were in one bathroom and Dad took refuge in the half-bath downstairs:)

I like the way you have organised your vanity cabinet - so neat!
My make up and jewellery was stored on a bed side table before our children were born. Once they were toddlers they enjoyed reaching up for them. I have since moved them up higher.

A very creative solution and I like the look of the little bins on the side. I can definitely see how this would make it easier for you as well as your daughter.

I share a vanity with my 12-year-old son. As you might imagine, no one would ever take a picture of our vanity and position it as a role model for organization.

What a clever and pretty solution to your vanity sharing issues! And a bargain too!

Great suggestions for organizing your vanity. If I had a daughter, I'm sure I would have come across the same issue.
