As spring approaches, creating a spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link) personalized to your home and family is a great time. Doing this will make it easier for you to complete all the necessary tasks without missing anything. But why should you create a customized spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link)?

Benefits of creating a customized spring cleaning checklist.
Creating a customized spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link) has many benefits. Please read below to learn why it is important.
It will help you remember all the detailed tasks you may not do every season.
It allows you to break down the list into easy-to-manage chunks of activities, which you can then spread out over a month or two.
Taking time to deep clean will reduce dust build-up and improve air quality in your home.
While cleaning, you can diagnose any possible issues in areas you haven't looked at.
You can refer to the customized deep cleaning task list each year to see what needs completing.
These benefits will not only help you but also help your family and your home stay on top of things you may forget about throughout the year. By creating this list now, you will be ready to start as the weather improves. Follow along to see how you can make your spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link).
How to make a spring cleaning checklist?
Spring cleaning is a wonderful time to do deep cleaning in various areas of your home. To help you remember the spots to visit, creating a spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link) will help you stay on top of every task.
This list of items is not intended for you to do in one day. You can easily break it down into weeks or even months. The pace is up to you and your family.
Start with a pen and notepad.
First, start by writing down the deep cleaning tasks for each room. Add the name of the room and the tasks underneath the specific room. If they are the same tasks, make a note of them and copy them to the other room column. Make sure to include a list of jobs you do from the ceiling to the floor. Things like fan blade and molding dusting would be first, while cleaning the vents and floor would be last.
Rooms in the home to add to your Spring Cleaning List
Each home is unique, so your spring cleaning list should also be unique. Below is a list of the rooms and areas to add to your spring cleaning list.
- Home Office
- Living Room
- Dining Room
- Family Room
- Laundry Room (Affiliate Link)
- Outdoor
- Shed (Affiliate Link)
- Bathroom
- Bedrooms
- Kitchen
- Basement
- Garage (Affiliate Link)
- Attic
- Sunroom
- Foyer
Add a column for a "due by" date.
After you write the task or complete a room spring cleaning checklist (Affiliate Link), you can add the "due by" date column. This will allow you to break down the tasks for easier completion.
Type the checklist up on a shared document app.
So you do not need to write it up every year; use an app like Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft OneNote, or Evernote so you can refer to it each year. These applications have a to-do box that easily lets you check off the completed task. Plus, you can share them with family members and assign them things to do. It's a win-win! =)
Revisit the checklist each year to modify tasks.
After you complete your customized checklist, make a note in February to revisit the checklist (Affiliate Link) and add the updated tasks that need to be completed. This will help you keep your checklist (Affiliate Link) relevant from year to year and remind you of upcoming jobs.
If I need to add to the checklist (Affiliate Link), I like to jot down tasks I may have missed on the back and update them after the chores are done or before the next spring begins.
Spring Cleaning Checklist Example
Here is an example of my spring deep cleaning list. Feel free to use it as an example.
Note: I didn't use a "due by" date column because I wanted it all on one page. Instead, I write a "due date" in the header row.
Now, let's move on to another area that should be cleaned: the grill. Before the grilling (Affiliate Link) season starts, you should thoroughly clean out the grill.
Grilling Season Checklist Example
If you are a grilling (Affiliate Link) family, like we are, you can also create a grilling (Affiliate Link) season checklist (Affiliate Link), as we did below.
Feel free to check out the How to Easily Clean Your Grill post for tips.
Start now, and you will be ahead of the game. I hope this post inspires you to prepare for spring cleaning your home.
Now, it is your turn. Do you have a customized spring cleaning checklist? Please leave a comment below on the things you have on your list. What task do you dislike the most? I would love to hear from you.

Great post. You’ve got me excited to tackle some spring cleaning. Really I’m just excited for Spring all the way around, but this is an excellent reminder and guide.

I love that you included spaces like the Foyer, the attic and shed. I think people focus on their living spaces, which is fine, but lose momentum after awhile and would forget these spaces if they weren't on a list.

I love making lists; it’s the actual cleaning I despise. Luckily, I’m a renter and have only a few rooms and not that long list, but this would be a great template for my clients. I have to say, though, I have never considered dusting my ceiling!

I'm not going to lie, I'm already gearing up for spring cleaning. Seems like a good thing to plan while I'm home. Get's me up off my computer for a bit. Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I smiled when I saw the cue for "Spring Cleaning!" We have a lot of snow here in New York, with more on the way today. There are zero signs of spring, but I know it's coming and soon. I'm looking forward to the refresh this spring. The cleaning creates a lightening up of air, spaces, and stuff.
I love your lists but will admit that I tend to be more casual about it for this type of thing. But I recognize that there is a great value in getting it down on paper with a specific task and date for many.

I love that you are talking about spring - bring it on! Still looking at snow here in CT, with more coming down today. I love the idea of putting the list up in a shared document that can be referenced year after year. Why start over each year? If you move to a new residence, you can simply tweak the list. Clean the mats at the doors - that is one I definitely will need to do after all of this weather. Might even just have to pitch a couple of them and start over:)

Sabrina, I love That your spring cleaning list is so comprehensive. I can see how it would be easily modified to fit an individuals home or needs. I tend to do outdoor cleaning in the spring and to keep up with the rooms in my home so there's no need for a deep spring cleaning - as I said, the outside is a different matter entirely!

Wow! What a great list. My home is cleaned weekly by professionals. Also, I live in a building where the maintenance team will periodically clean the vents, heaters etc. Still, there were items on this list that set off a bell for me. I made my own list, from your list, and I’m ready to go!

I'm always a fan of making one's own checklist! It's easy to use someone else's, but it's also easy to get overwhelmed -- Do I really have to do that? Ugh!

Hi Sabrina,
Without checklists - I would get nothing done. They are literally my brain on paper. I love the idea of a spring cleaning checklist - there are definitely a lot of things that can fall through the cracks without one.

I am happy that spring is coming and the snow is finally melting. Bring it on!! Chores are more fun and exciting when windows can be open and the energy can be flowing through the house and extending into the outdoors. I just hope when I open my barbecue this year there isn't a huge mouse nest like last year!! eek!!!

Love the checklists! I'm printing the grilling one for my husband! Thanks!
