Since it is Mother's Day, I wanted to share my mom and some information about her as a Mother's Day tribute. She passed away several years ago and I miss her every day so once a year, I like to share something that I learned from her.
First, I want to share some empowering quotes she would say to me often. While my mother wasn't an eloquent speaker, she was always direct and never unkind in her expressions.
Inspirational Quotes From Mom
Believe in yourself because you are more powerful than you may think.
Always take care of yourself.
Don't give up your dreams. They make your life worthwhile.
Aren't they lovely? I wish I remembered more and wrote them down.
Years after I graduated from college, my mother gave me a book called, "To My Daughter, With Love, A Mother's Memory Book" by Donna Green. It's a book that would ask you questions and the mother would write her thoughts in it. It was very well done, and covered several different areas. It had areas like, "About my mom", "About myself", and "About my daughter". Since my grandmother primarily lived in Italy for my entire life, I truly treasured those memories she wrote. From that book, below are my mom's favorite things:
Book: Les Miserables
Season: Spring
Writer: Hugo
Color: Navy blue and purple
Scent: Rose
Flower: Lily
Here are 4 of my favorite quotes I came across that are great advice just in case your mom never told you these, feel free to share.
"I long to put the experience of 50 years at once into your young lives, to give you at once the key of that treasure chamber every gem of which has cost me tears and struggles and prayers, but you must work for these inward treasures yourselves."
~ Harriet Beecher Stowe
"The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there."
~ L.P. Hartley
"No mean woman can cook well for it calls for a light heart, a generous spirit, a generous spirit and a large heart."
~ Paul Gauguin
"Never grow a wishbone, Daughter, where your backbone ought to be."
~Clementine Paddleford
You can buy used copies of the book above on Amazon. But if you prefer a different one. Here are several books I found on Amazon that are similar.
I hope you have a lovely Mother's Day with or without your mother.
Let's continue the conversation, what one piece of advice did your mother give you that you treasure? Please leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you.

That memory book sounds just wonderful. I bet it's one of your most treasured possessions. I have nothing like it, but I do have clippings and scraps of paper with quotes that my mom loved. I can put them in the book if I make one!

The wisdom of our mothers.
I wished I was wiser when I was younger, just to have listened to her.
Thanks for sharing for they are profound quotes.

Lovely sentiments from your Mom, Sabrina, and I liked the Clementine Paddleford quote as well. We are always stronger than we think we are and our backbones heartier.
Your Mom would have surely liked this tribute.
Sabrina
Thanks, Rose Mary.

Love the spirit of this post. Your mother seems to have been a lot like my late father. He said the same things to me. The last thing he said to someone else about me before he passed away was: "You never need to worry about Catarina, she will always find a way." Have reminded myself of that several times in life.
Sabrina
That's great advice from your father, Catarina. Thanks for sharing.

Based on your list of favorite things, you're mom had pretty good taste to go along with her way with words.

Lovely tribute Sabrina! I especially like Clementine Paddleford's quote. I never heard of her before, but I'm going to look her up. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sabrina
My favorite is the quote by Harriet Beecher Stowe. I know my mom must have felt like this many times, as I'm sure all mothers do. 🙂

Food for thought - "no mean woman can cook well for it calls for a light heart."
There is something to be said for women who cook out of enjoyment and not just as a means to an end. I enjoy cooking and would like to find more time to cook at my leisure.

Those quotes from your mum are lovely. My favorite:
"Believe in yourself because you are more powerful than you may think."
It's simple and yet profound. Great encouragement to focus on the gifts you have and to make use of them. It's too easy to focus on what we can't do. This quote makes you think about your rock star skills.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your mum with us. =)
Sabrina
Well said, Deb. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
