Some notes on this recipe. You can easily change it to ground turkey if you prefer that. If you want it spicier, add ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes instead of ⅛ tsp.
What ingredients are in an easy Italian Sloppy Joes recipe?
1 lb of ground beef
1 red pepper chopped
1 onion chopped
2 cups of homemade tomato sauce (Affiliate Link) or bought sauce with or without chunks
3 ounces tomato paste
1 tablespoon Italian herbs mix
3 garlic cloves minced
½ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon red pepper flakes
A quarter teaspoon of pepper black
4 potato hamburger rolls
Optional: 4 slices of Provolone Cheese
How do you make this easy Italian Sloppy Joes Recipe?
In a large skillet, at medium-high heat, add two tablespoons of olive oil (Affiliate Link) and ground beef.
Break down the meat and cook for five minutes until light brown.
Add to the meat the chopped red pepper, chopped onion, the Italian seasoning mix, the garlic. Stir to combine and cook for another 3-5 minutes or when the onions become translucent. Stir occasionally.
Add tomato sauce (Affiliate Link) (try ours on our blog: 20-minute Tomato Sauce recipe) and tomato paste and the rest of the salt pepper and red pepper flakes, lower the temperature to low, and cover for 5- 10 minutes.
