This year has been an amazing one here at Sabrina's Organizing blog. Some of our DIY posts created a few years ago became popular just because of the pandemic. Like our DIY Party Ideas posts, other posts became less popular just because of COVID, understandably. Let's recap our DIY Popular projects for the home and revisit them if you missed any over the year. Let's begin!
Sabrina's Organizing Most Popular DIY Projects for 2020
The fifth DIY popular project was the How to Create a DIY Fabric Room Divider.
This post shares how to make a stiff fabric wall and hang it from drop ceiling hooks. It works great for a room that needs a separate area for an office while working at home. The stiff backing helps keep the fabric stable and allows for a focal point where you can place a desk or side table in front or behind it.
The 4th most popular DIY project was the How to Create a Custom Silverware drawer organizer for the kitchen.
This one shows you how to make a drawer organizer (Affiliate Link) exactly the size of your drawer. And allows for lots of space for silverware and serving utensils (Affiliate Link). The insert is easily removable to help with clean up. And, if you pick a durable liner, it will last a long time with constant use.
The third most popular post was the Secrets to Making a Great Whiteboard Wall.
This post shows how I transformed one of my office walls into a great whiteboard wall with a peel and stick decal. After using it for a while, it still works, and it helps with brainstorming in my office for future DIY projects and planning.
The second most popular DIY project was the transform a bedroom from carpet to cork flooring post.
This post talks about how we transformed my son's room and walk-in closet with cork flooring. It's a super easy DIY project and helps keep the dust to a minimum. Visit the post and get more information about how we did this.
And, the number one most popular DIY project was our How to Make a DIY Command Station Magnet Board.
This one was an upcycling DIY project. I had a shabby magnet board that didn't work very well as solely a markerboard (Affiliate Link)/magnet board. So this shows how I cleaned the stains off of it and how I repurposed it with 3M Command hooks (Affiliate Link), calendars, a mail sorter on clearance, and dollar store checklist (Affiliate Link) pads. Feel free to check it out.
Well, there you have it! I hope this post gives you some DIY project ideas for the home! Please leave a comment below on your favorite Do it Yourself post from this year. I would love to hear from you.

Inspiring projects, Sabrina - I have a client who has a huge portable whiteboard they use for project planning, and I think suggesting a whiteboard wall will take it to the next level for them!

Hi Sabrina,
I love your idea for a DIY room divider! How perfect is that now with everyone working from home? And it seems easy enough for almost anyone to make. It would be cute too for siblings that have to share a room as well. I can't wait to see your 2021 DIY's!

I'm not surprised these were the most popular; they're useful and inventive. Personally, I'm useless at DIY. I think my manual dexterity is limited to typing and holding tacos. 😉 But I love how easy and inviting you made each of these projects sound!

I like to do some DIY projects, but mostly with the help of my husband. He's great with tools and has a lot of them. I'd say I'm more of a surface DIYer. I'm good at decorating a room and selecting materials. But when it comes to hanging pictures, curtains, or things like that, I ask Steve to help. We did the last home project for the wedding when we cleared out and cleaned up our greenhouse. That's where we had the wedding ceremony for our daughter. It was so much fun to do that together.
It was fun to see which DIY projects were the most popular. I'm not surprised that the Command Center was #1. Busy families need one place to land.

Wow! It’s so amazing what you can do. I’m impressed! I really liked the silverware drawer and the whiteboard. You are so right, many of the ones on the market don’t properly fit the drawers, except perhaps, the ones that extend.
I did see do it yourself dividers placed on a slant. It was so clever and I don’t think that’s anything you can find in the stores.
I think from now on I will call you, Ms do it yourself fix it lady!”

These are all great projects, Sabrina. I love the way you make them sound so easy to complete. I admit, I'm not much of a do-it-yourself person - with the exception of outdoor gardening projects. Then I'm all in.

Isn't it fun to see what resonated with people? I am definitely a DIY gal. I think it is so fun to try and do a project on my own. Some work out, some don't, but I always learn something, and I love that. Thanks for sharing. Will be pinning to my DIY board!

I didn't inherit any of my Dad's DIY genes, but I'd love someone else to make a room divider for me, that I could also use as a background for my Zoom meetings. I don't know about my clients and friends, but I'm tired of looking at what's behind my desk!
