What inspired me to do this craft project?
The new hair products I used had a great hair styling container that I couldn't part with. It had smooth and thick sides. So, I decided to use it to help me organize small things in my bathroom.
What supplies did I use to make this Old Hair Gel Container?
You need to use only a few things when making this craft project.
- Used hair styling container - cleaned and dried
- Foam sticker hearts are a variety. Here are some varieties from Amazon (affiliate).

How to wash a hair styling container?
Hair gel is water-based, so washing them is pretty straightforward—nothing fancy here to clean this container out.
First, using a paper towel, wipe out the entire container inside.
Then, go and take off any labels (Affiliate Link) from the top and sides. The container labels (Affiliate Link) quickly came off of this pretty container.
If you have glue residue, you must also remove it. Try soapy water and scrub the sides. Then, dry it. If it still doesn't come off, try white vinegar and a cloth, then rewash and dry it. It should come off pretty quickly with these two methods.
How much did it cost to make this old hair gel container?
This container costs about $19.00. The stickers cost about $4.00, but I had plenty left for another project. I used $1.00 of the foam stickers that came in the bag. This project cost $20.00, but it wasn't that much since I used up all the hair gel.
How long did it take to transform this old hair gel container?
It took a maximum of 1 hour to clean the container out, dry it, and redesign the exterior and lid.

How did I make this old hair gel container?
First, gather the sticker shapes you want to use. I found that the hearts were of two different sizes, so I separated them to make it easier to use them in the container.
Then, I decided on a pattern for my containers. I picked tiny hearts and large hearts in different shades of purple.
I started by adding the large, deep purple heart.
Now I added tiny light purple hearts on the right side and one upside down.
I continued with this pattern around the container.
I had too much space but not enough for the tiny hearts and a large one. So, instead, I added one larger light purple heart upside down heart.
Other things to do with old hair gel containers
There are many things you can do with durable hair gel containers. Below are other things you can store in this repurposed hair gel container.
- Small craft items like buttons, beads, etc...
- Travel-size toiletries - you can add your small amount of shampoo or gel back into the container to take on a trip.
- Cleaning powder - If you need a small amount of baking powder, add it to the container and carry it.
- Make-up storage - you can add small things like eye cream, lip gloss, and small sample perfume bottles inside.
- Art supplies - you can store small art supplies inside, like stickers and other accessories for your craft projects.
The Big Reveal
This old hair gel container looks brand new again. I love it. The best part is that I can easily remove and replace the stickers with other stickers and still use them to store my small things. Yay!
I hope this old hair gel container post inspires you to repurpose your hair gel container and help organize your small things.
