Unique Organizing Tips I Developed While Working with Clients

Last Modified: January 28, 2025 Sabrina Quairoli This blog uses cookies. It also has affiliate links. We earn sponsored content income.

There are many tips on organizing on the internet, TV, radio, and podcasts. What makes these unique organizing tips? It is because these tips were created as the client and I needed them. All of these tips and photos are from my consultations with clients. Read on to see how we came up with these tips. I hope you enjoy it.

Jump to:
  • Tip #1: Use customized drawer organizers to maximize the space in small drawers.
  • Tip #2: Label solid color bins to remind you what is in them.
  • Tip #3: Only Have One(1) Inbox in your home office.
  • Tip #4: When you want to sell an item in your home, but it is too heavy to move, hang a sign and write what you want to do with it.
  • Tip #5: Use pull-out drawers in lower cabinets.

Tip #1: Use customized drawer organizers to maximize the space in small drawers.

In small drawers, use customized drawer organizers to maximize the space.

This tip came from looking high and low for smaller drawer organizers. There are very few that are less than 18 inches wide. So, we decided to make a customized one for all our flatware. Here are some drawer dividers I found on Amazon (Affiliate Link) (affiliate).

Tip #2: Label solid color bins to remind you what is in them.

Label solid color bins to remind you what are in them.

This unique organizing tip came from clients getting annoyed when they couldn't remember where an item was in their storage room or kids' playroom area. They would know the system when we would set it up. But, when they had to find something, it was torture remembering everything. They couldn't remember where things were at all. As a result, I realized that, for the most part, my clients worked on the philosophy of "Out of sight, out of mind." So, you can see how difficult colored bins with no labels (Affiliate Link) would be for them. Feel free to check out Amazon's collection of labels for bins to use on these bins. (affiliate)

Tip #3: Only Have One(1) Inbox in your home office.

Only Have One(1) Inbox in your home office.

This unique organizing tip came from a few of my male client's projects. They felt the need to put papers in baskets in their home office so that they were in a bin. Each bin didn't necessarily have a purpose. Making one bin the "go-to" bin is essential. The "in" bin only holds items you haven't looked at. It's that just came in. After you look at the paper in the bin, it gets moved to another container, file, or recycled.

Tip #4: When you want to sell an item in your home, but it is too heavy to move, hang a sign and write what you want to do with it.

When you want to sell an item in your home, but it is too heavy to move, hang a sign and write what you want to do with the item.

This unique organizing tip came from a client who needed to remove extra furniture (Affiliate Link) and other bigger items. Since they couldn't be removed immediately, we needed to remind her what action needed to be taken with a particular item. So, I created these To Sell signs that would help her remember. I added a line so we could write on it to say where we wanted to sell it. The places we were considering selling these items were at a Community Yard Sale, Craig's List, eBay, and Consignment Shops. It worked beautifully to help her remember where she was going to sell these items.

Tip #5: Use pull-out drawers in lower cabinets.

Use pull out drawers in lower cabinets

This unique organizing tip came from my client's kitchen and my home. The image is of my own pull-out cabinet in my kitchen. The back of the lower cabinet space was always a pain to get to, and it helped if we could pull out the items to help us get to them. Then, add additional items to the pull-out to make the pull-out more customized and organized for the client. These other added items could be from the dollar store or re-purposed items, so the pull-out drawer wasn't a mess when we pulled it out.

Feel free to visit my DIY post that shows you how to make these cut PVC baggie holders.

I hope these tips inspire you to get different areas of your home organized. Let's start a conversation; what is your favorite organizing tip you created in your home?   Please leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you.

You're so right — no matter how much expertise an organizer has in the field, we're always developing unique tips as a result of a particular client's needs, and then we find how well these tips work for other clients, as well!

I completely agree about having only one in-box in the office. Imagine how much better our digital lives would be if we could have a similar centralized inbox for all of our messages rather than separate inboxes for email, social media, Slack, tech notifications, etc.! We'd feel so much more in control!
