As I sit here and ponder my 25 years in the organizing industry - working as a small business and homeowners support services, I feel so blessed that I was able to continue helping people get and stay organized, in their homes and their small businesses. It has been a wild ride, watching my business grow, slow down, and grow again. With the support of my husband, my children, brother, parents, etc., I can do what I love: help others in many different ways. I feel blessed. Today, I wanted to reflect on 10 quotes (Affiliate Link) I have said over the years, to clients, family members, and friends, and on social media to remind them that they are in control of their surroundings and can change what isn't working. They are must-read quotes (Affiliate Link) to help you stay organized. Let's begin.

Let's start with this one.
"Clutter shows the indecisions. Make a decision and clear the clutter."
I shared many quotes (Affiliate Link) early in my career, even on this blog. This one was popular. It came about when I would work with clients, and they would tell me that they would put this here, "for now," and then realize that they never returned to taking care of the item.
"Clutter shows the indecisions. Make a decision and clear the clutter." ~ Sabrina Quairoli >>> Must Read Quotes to Help You Stay Organized Share on X"Complete one task then move on to the next task."
The following quote (Affiliate Link) is an important reminder to stay on target and focused on the task at hand. Deviating from the task will prolong and confuse it. While this is not unique, I say it a lot to people who get distracted while doing tasks throughout the day.
"Decide BEFORE each task, if the task will bring you closer to your goals."
The third must-read quote (Affiliate Link) helps my clients who have trouble prioritizing tasks. They want to do it all but have issues figuring out which one to do first. I also have this issue when there are so many tasks to do. This is an area where I help my accountability service clients figure out what is the most important to the least essential task to achieve their goals.
"Don't expect to get it all done in one sitting."
Over the years, I have worked with several clients, from stay-at-home mothers to retirees, and found that they initially wanted to get things done within a session or two. Then, I realized that our 4-hour time slot was the sweet spot for getting things done and feeling good about what was accomplished instead of feeling overly tired and unable to get back to decluttering/organizing for weeks.
There is no need to stress about it. You created this clutter over several years; it will take time to go through it. However, it will not take several years to clear the clutter and organize your space. I have tracked this and found that we can declutter and organize an entire home (3-4 bedrooms) in nine months.
“Get rid of items that trigger upsetting memories.”
This quote (Affiliate Link) came about when working with people who had trauma in their childhood. As we go through their things, they would recount the comment, trauma, etc... I would explain to them that seeing an object symbolizes trauma that they experienced should be removed from the home for a tranquil and safe (Affiliate Link) environment. Usually, after they recount the story (Affiliate Link), they do let it go. I recommend shredding or burning if it is a paper document.
“The only items that should be in your bedroom are the items you love and care to look at every morning and evening.”
This quote (Affiliate Link) came from my blog post about making your bedroom an oasis. Your bedroom should always be a place of relaxation. Only the items in there should enrich you and your loved ones. When I worked with clients on their bedrooms, I would remind them that a bedroom needs to be a relaxing space.

"Unused clothes are like uneaten canned food. They decay even if you don't use them." by Sabrina Quairoli >>> Must Read Quotes to Help You Stay Organized Share on XThe following must-read quote (Affiliate Link) is about unused clothing. I write a lot about clothing on this blog; you can see all of it here. Just because one keeps clothes, doesn't mean the clothing will stay the same over the years. Hanging them improperly, or having issues with your closet or drawers, can result in the fabric becoming torn, having pulls, etc...

"Motivation today will help you move to where you want to be tomorrow."
The following quote (Affiliate Link) is more of a reminder. If you are motivated today, you will see an improvement tomorrow. All it takes is one step forward and you will be further tomorrow than you are today.
Each day, we need to motivate ourselves. Visit my 20 Empowering Motivational Quotes to support you even further.
"You are more important than your stuff."
This quote (Affiliate Link) reminds them that they are more valuable than their stuff. My clients would think they needed to keep something because a loved one gave it to them. Knowing they did not like or want it, they would sacrifice their happiness because their loved one did not give unconditionally. It is OK to let stuff go that does not suit your lifestyle. Donate it to a cause that your loved one cherishes. Others will enjoy it more than you will ever.
"You are never too old to complete your goals."
Lastly, this one is for people who feel they can't accomplish something because they are too old or too set in their ways. We all can change. We need to put our minds to it and be willing to let go of something to take on something else that works better for us.
I hope these quotes (Affiliate Link) support you in your decluttering journey. Please share your favorite quote (Affiliate Link) below so we can continue the conversation.

Of all of these, I think “Get rid of items that trigger upsetting memories" might be the most powerful. Too often, people hold on to tangible items that represent hurtful emotions in the same way they hold onto resentment. There's an assumption that letting go of the pain somehow means tacit forgiveness or denying that the pain ever happened. The truth is, we don't have to forgive, we don't have to forget; but it helps to free ourselves of the weight dragging us down. All of your quotes are great, but this one really reflects what I see my clients struggle with so often.
A close second favorite would be, "You are more important than your stuff."

I always love your quotes. My favorite is "Don't expect to get it all done in one sitting." I think once people decide to move forward, they want it done quickly, but if it took a long time to create the clutter, then it's going to take some time to declutter.

Thanks, Janet, for stopping by and commenting. I really appreciate you.

Congratulations, Sabrina, for your 25th anniversary! What an amazing milestone. Knowing that you've helped so many people is something to be proud of.
Especially as a fellow quote lover, I appreciate your curated quote collection. They are all great, and my favorite one is, "Don't expect to get it all done in one sitting." Expectations about the speed of which decluttering and organizing happens can be way off. There are so many factors that influence the time it takes to accomplish goals.
Helping to manage expectations is as much a part of the organizing process as the organizing the 'stuff' is.
Sabrina Quairoli says
I totally agree, Linda, about expectations. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I really appreciate it.

How wonderful to be able to look back on your many years in this industry. You were a pioneer! I love all of these quotes, especially the one about asking yourself if the task you are about to undertake will bring you closer to your goals. So often I dive into the tasks that are easy, rather than the ones that are important.
Congratulations on this milestone!
