DIY Beautiful Wall Planter easy and affordable

Wall planters are very popular these days. The other day, we went to the farm for our annual tradition, and they had several different vertical planters. They were so pretty but can cost a pretty penny, so I prefer to make one myself. There are lots of ways to do this. Here is one way I created a DIY wall planter.

What supplies did I use to make this Propagation Wall Planter?

There are only three things I used.

  • Frame with chicken wire attached
  • 3 glass vases at the dollar store
  • 3 adjustable plumbing rings
  • Plants

How did I make this frame and chicken wire into a propagation wall mount?

First, I purchased the glass vases at the dollar store and thought about how to hang them.  They are colorful and attractive. And since they had a curved top, it would be easier to hang them by wrapping something around the neck of the vase. Cost: $3.00

Then, I headed to the hardware store and purchased these adjustable plumbing rings to help attach the dollar store glass vases to the chicken wire picture frame. Cost: $3.00

Take the adjustable plumbing ring, place around the vase and pass it through the chicken wire and reattached.

Then, I found a clipboard frame(frame with chicken wire) in the clearance section at the nearby craft store. I love that the frame was already painted and rustic-looking. To top it off, it was affordable—only $15.00—and it had very well-supported chicken wire in the back.

Tips to help you make this project?

Tip: When looking for DIY home craft items, check the clearance section and use online coupons to bring down the cost.

Tip: If you want to make your own chicken wire frame, find a wide wooden frame that you like and purchase a small amount of chicken wire to cover enough to overlap the frame's back sides.

The next step is to use a staple gun and secure the chicken wire to the back of the frame. They didn't staple it that much. I recommend doing this every 2 inches or so to ensure the chicken wire is fully secure all around the frame.

To attach the vases to the chicken wire, disconnect the plumbing rings, attach them around the vases and through the chicken wire, and reattach them in the back. Evenly distribute the vases and repeat this process.

Then, I added water and used ivy from another plant in my home. However, any plants will work.  You can add roses or your favorite flowers and change them every few weeks for a fresh look.

How much did this DIY wall planter cost?

The entire project took about 30 minutes to put together. The total cost was $21.00. Not bad for a wall decoration and planter, right?

How long did it take to make this DIY wall Planter?

It only took about 15 minutes after I purchased all the items.

Conclusion

What do you think of my DIY wall planter? Please leave a comment below. It looks so pretty, and I really enjoy doing projects like this because they are so easy to put together and unique to my home. The best part is that I found all the pieces fairly quickly and didn't break the bank.

Oh, my, that's just lovely! I'd have to use fake flowers or plants since I don't have the gift of the green thumb. But it would be fun to try - you make it look so easy!

What a wonderful project! It's so funny - when I lived in Maui the one rule the landlord had was no hanging anything on the walls. Now that I'm in a new (much larger) place, with no such restrictions, I feel a bit intimidated by all these blank walls. Where to begin?! As much as I love nature, a wall planter seems the perfect place. Thank you!

Love the planters. I love the different colors and the project seems relatively easy. I'm sure you can do a lot with things found on clearance when you're creative.

The coloured bottles are simply beautiful and would look great hanging in the kitchen. I have seen similar in IKEA.

This is a really simple and affordable way to decorate a wall, and it's great that you can always mix things up by changing the plants or flowers that you put in the vase.
