Asian recipes are great for me because I can easily avoid dairy. They have a lot of flavors. This Asian Turkey Burger recipe is no different. The use of dark turkey ground meat helps give the burger the fat it needs and adds flavor. It is a healthy burger recipe option if you like ground turkey.

What inspired me to make these Asian-infused turkey burgers?

Burgers are awesome in the summer, but I'm always looking for something different to make with turkey burgers. This Asian-infused turkey burger does the trick!

What ingredients are in Asian-infused turkey burgers?

  • 1 red onion sliced, coated with olive oil (Affiliate Link) then grilled
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed or minced)
  • 1 lb turkey ground dark meat
  • 1 tablespoon Gluten-Free soy sauce
  • ½ cup carrot (shredded)
  • 1-2 teaspoon ginger (ground)
  • 1 tablespoon Teriyaki sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil (Affiliate Link) for coating the burger before cooking
  • Chili garlic sauce and mayo for sauce topping for a burger
  • Rolls (GF or regular)

How to make Asian Infused Turkey Burgers?

Step 1: Shred the carrots in a bowl and set them aside. Measure out the rest of the ingredients.

Step 2: Mix garlic, ground turkey, soy sauce, shredded carrot, and ginger in a large bowl and make 4 turkey burgers. Mix it well. The ground ginger can clump. Set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Preheat the grill. After it gets to a high temperature, clean the grates with a grill brush.

Step 4: While the grill is heating up, coat both sides of the burger with a nonstick spray. And, set aside.

Step 5: On indirect heat, averaging about 350 -375 degrees, add burgers and cook for 10 minutes. Then turn.

Step 6: Add the sliced red onion and coat with olive oil (Affiliate Link).  Grill the burgers and red onion for 10 minutes. Turn the sliced onion halfway through.

Step 7: Meanwhile, make the sauce for the burgers:
Mix 1 part chili garlic sauce to 2 parts mayo. Make as much as you want with this ratio. Set aside.

Step 8: Remove burgers and set them aside for a few minutes.

Step 9: Assemble burger on buns with the mayo sauce and serve. For the bunless option, add lettuce to the plate and place the burger on the lettuce with the sauce.

Reveal:

This is what the Asian turkey burger looked like after I finished making them. It was a juicy burger and was great for my meal plans. This tasty burger was cooked just right. It is one of the best burgers I had in a long time. One of my great healthy dinner recipes!

What toppings could go on Asian Turkey Burger Recipe?

Sriracha Mayo - This recipe calls for garlic chili sauce and mayo topping but you can also make a sriracha mayo which is sriracha mixed with mayo. Use the same parts as the garlic chili sauce and mayo.

Sriracha Aioli - You can also add a Sriracha Aioli as a topping to this recipe. Here is a recipe you may want to try.

Crunchy Asian Slaw - Check out this recipe I found online to make this slaw. You can top the burgers with the slaw and not add the other sauces for a refreshing crunch.

Tomato slices - add one or two thin tomato slices on top of the burger with one of the sauces.

Any tips on how to make these Asian-infused turkey burgers?

We should always be mindful of the temperature of our turkey burgers. You should always use a meat thermometer and the temperature for a turkey burger should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Take off the grill and let it sit for a few minutes before assembling your burger.

What side dish goes well with this Asian Turkey Burger Recipe?

A lettuce-free salad is a great option for a side dish to accompany this turkey burger.

QUICK ASIAN SALAD RECIPE - This one doesn't use any cheese.

CUCUMBER TOMATO CHICKPEA FETA SALAD RECIPE - You can remove the feta from this recipe. It will still be delicious.

THE BEST GREEK SALAD RECIPE - the herb feta can also be removed and it would be delicious as a side dish for these turkey burgers.

What substitutions can I do with this recipe?

Sesame Oil: Drizzle a little sesame oil over the burger instead of using olive oil (Affiliate Link) or spray.

Roll options: You can swap out the gluten-free roll for a smaller potato roll or whole wheat bun.

Water chestnut: Add some water chestnut chopped to the turkey burger for added crunch.

Lean Ground Turkey: You can use lean ground turkey breast instead of dark ground turkey meat.

Low-sodium soy sauce: You can use low-sodium soy sauce if you want. It was hard to find a gluten-free low sodium soy sauce for this recipe.

Ginger: Feel free to swap out the ground ginger for the fresh ginger root. Be sure to grate the ginger before adding it.

Fresh cucumber ribbons (Affiliate Link): For a pinch of crunch, you can add some cucumber ribbons (Affiliate Link). Click here to see how to make them.
