How to Organize Felt Pads and Hooks Like a Pro - Featured image

Whenever I want to hang something on the wall or in a cabinet, I get "oh no." from my dear husband.  He has an aversion to any holes in the walls.  So, after 20 years together, I have figured out a way to hang my stuff still and not damage the walls and cabinets.  I use 3M(C) Command(TM) hooks.  They remove easily and 99% of the time leave no mark or hole on the wall or cabinet. Since I use them so often, I wanted to Organize Felt Pads And Hooks in an easy-to-access container. Here is how I organized ours in our tool closet.

Where to use 3M(C) Command(TM) hooks?

Below are tips on how I used my 3M Command Hooks (Affiliate Link) throughout my home to maximize organization. Feel free to check them out.

1. I used the hooks inside kitchen cabinets to hang stuff:

A kitchen has so many little things that can easily be hung. Check out a few ideas.

hanging measuring spoons
hand strainers using hooks in cabinets

The measuring spoons (Affiliate Link) work great hanging.  We added this a few months ago, and it still looks like this when I took the picture. Not bad, right? My kids even put them away properly.  Yay!

This one is new. We had these strainers stacked with the skillets, which didn't work.  They kept getting lost in the deep corner cabinet, so I hung them. We also added a light to help with this dark corner cabinet.

2. Bathroom/Powder Room cleaning:

The cleaning gloves would get lost in the cleaning bin and then get quite dirty from the cleaning products if one spilled, so I saw (Affiliate Link) this on social media and thought this would work for my cleaning gloves.

hang cleaning gloves on door

I used a large binder clip to hold the gloves together and hooked the metal part to the hook on the cabinet.  Ingenious!

If you know anything about these hooks, they usually give you extra backing and sometimes even hooks; what to do with these?

How to organize extra felt pads and hooks?

Before:

I used to have it in two bins with everything stuffed in them. If you don't believe me, check out this picture of the bin with my extra Command(TM) hooks in them.  I also stored felt pads in this bin for that last-minute replacement of chair (Affiliate Link) legs.

Before this DIY organizing project.

First, I purchased a clear plastic organizer box storage container with Adjustable Dividers. Pick the right size depending on how much you have. Below are products similar to the one I used on Amazon (Affiliate Link)(affiliate).

Sort by 'like' items.

First, I sorted the items into like items and then labeled the bottom of each section of the divider bin. I purchased this lid divider bin from Arts and Crafts (a craft store near me).  The bin was from the Adjustable Organizer bin (link is from Amazon (Affiliate Link)-Affiliate).

Label the Bottom of each compartment

NOTE: be sure to remove enough dividers to fit the hooks.  If you have smaller items, remove the smaller vertical dividers instead of the horizontal ones.  The horizontal ones usually run the length of the bin.

The Reveal:

That is it! Here is the after picture. I am so happy with it.  I can see everything and don't need to dig through the box.  Plus, without all the papers, my tool area takes up less room. Woo hoo!

The Finished Well Organized Felt and Hooks Container - Square image

Since I use different size hooks, I labeled those areas by size.  I also had an area for large backings and small backings.  I now can see that I need to replenish them soon.

Also, using the clear bin lets me see if I have the pads or hooks I need without opening them. Yay!

How much did this Organize Felt Pads And Hooks project cost?

This project didn't cost a lot of money. It was under $10.00 for the organizing container.

How long did this project take to organize?

This project took me 1 hour, including going to the store and buying the bin.  Not long at all.

3M(c) Command(TM) Coupons: If you never check it out, Command(TM) has its own website. It has pages to inspire visitors: how-to projects, what new products they have, and how to use them. My favorite section of their site is the Promotions section which shows you the available coupons. Here's the link. (not an affiliate link)

I hope this inspires you to organize your small things. Let's continue the conversation; what could you use a bin like this for? Do you use these hooks?  How do you store them?  Please leave a comment below.  I would love to hear from you.

I'm a big fan of 3M adhesive at home at also in the camp trailer on my family's property in Montana. As for binder clips, the best use I've found for them is the one I've clipped to the windowsill in my office so I can loop cords for my electronic devices through it so they don't fall onto the floor.

I never fail to notice how resourceful and creative you are, Sabrina! Any idea how much weight those 3M(c) Command(TM) hooks can handle? You may have saved the day for me with a fabric picture I want to put up. Thank you!

I love the measuring spoons on a hook. I never thought of doing that. There are 2 places in my kitchen where I use measuring spoons. I'm always running from one place to the next trying to find them. You've inspired me to spring for the extra set of measuring spoons and put them on hooks in both places in my kitchen. Easy solution! Thanks!

Aw Jeez, you had me with this blog as soon as I saw the measuring spoons. I have 3 sets of them, held in a cup. That's ducky except the older I get, the harder it is to see which one is which--size. Hanging them up will solve this problem!

Also, my husband's garage (oh, yeah, it is so NOT my space) is a disaster. Every time I try to find said felt pads or nails or screws, I want to weep. Great idea on the organizer!

Sabrina, what great ideas. I have all my measuring spoons and cups jumbled together in a basket in my cupboard. I will definitely be putting up hooks and placing them in the area where they are used. Fabulous.

I love the idea of hanging things in the kitchen. As someone who cooks a lot it is very convenient to condense the space that pots and cooking utensils are n and to make them visible. I used to live in a smaller apartment and I hung a lot of kitchenware simply because there wasn't any space. When I moved to a house with a larger kitchen I got away from that but maybe your post will inspire me to find a way to get back to it.

Well, let me first say Sabrina, you have a LOT of stuff girl! But then I guess between family and 20 years of marriage that's normal. This is a great post because the one and only rule my landlord has is "no holes in the walls" so you've given me some great ideas!

Many people are concerned about organizing the big items. They fail to see if you have many little items disorganized, then you have a big mess. As they say in the Navy, a lot of small leaks can sink a big Battle Ship.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Excellent idea to use that kind of hooks, Sabrina. And as you point out they can be used for a lot of things.

What a pretty house in the first photograph!

I need these hooks for our gloves and cloths. At present they are stuffed under the sink cupboard. I have to scurry through other items to get to them.

I find it is the smallest items which need to be well organised. They are a pain to look for if they are mislaid.
