As a mom, organizing your family's life and your own can be done in many ways. Not every family or parent is the same, so is the variety of solutions to keep you organized. Above all else, we decide what we prioritize and what we do not care about. But, everyone knows that something has to give. While I am pretty organized, being a professional organizer helping other parents and homeowners, I found that I do have to take some shortcuts to keep all the balls in the air. Today, I am going to share with you my hacks that helped me keep my family on top of their tasks and stay eating healthy. I hope you enjoy my confessions of an organized mom post!

Confession 1: Stacking Like Items is OK.

Stacking 'Like" items together inside bins, drawers, and closets is good enough for me. It doesn’t need to look pretty.

stacking like items together inside bins, draewers, and closets is good enough for me. It doesn't need to look pretty.

Confession 2: Do a Quick Tidying Up

Before the company comes over, I do a clean sweep of all surfaces in the common areas that will be visible to the company.

You can do this using my How to Do the Tidy Up Method. There are step-by-step instructions on how to do this in this post.

This says the before company comes over I do a clean sweep of all surfaces in the common areas where my company will see.

Confession 3: It is OK to help others, too.

Helping others is more important than helping myself. Let me explain, it's essential to help your kids learn different tasks and how to do various things to help them be more independent in their lives. So when I am talking about helping others, I am mainly talking about kids that are in my life, my kids, nieces, nephews, friends' kids, etc...

As a result, by helping them learn new things and realizing they can handle tasks on their own, I have less work to do. It's a win-win!

helping others is more important than helping myself.

Confession 4: Vacuuming up Legos is easier than picking them up.

Yes, I know, Legos and any small toy pieces cost money. But, sometimes, when I am in a rush and want to vacuum (affiliate) up these small things, they are just not important. Legos always give a little extra pieces, and they are usually the small pieces that are extra anyway.

vacuuming up legos is easier than picking them up and sorting them.

Confession 5: I only make meals 5 days a week

It's great to make homemade meals each day, but really, 5 days a week is wonderful for our family. You see, we love our leftovers, so we have a leftover dinner night, which is usually the day before trash day - for us, that is a Wednesday. It works well for us, and we reduce waste.

Making meals 5 days a week for the family is enough.

Confession 6: Watching shows is my self-care time.

I need time to stop and not think of anything going on, to let myself separate from the reality of life. Time to myself means catching up on my missed shows and some general news (not politics, though). Check out some of my self care (affiliate) options in these posts below.

20 Ways To Take Care Of Yourself In 20 Minutes

Do you have time to take care of yourself regularly? Not many people can say "yes" to this question because they are busy doing tasks for others. I know that I will take care of myself better some days than other days. I am trying to change this, make better choices, and choose myself first.

Confession 7: Store-made Marinated meats are an excellent option for weeknight dinners

For a while, I made my marinades and added them to my meat, and then froze them. It worked well, but as my work got busier, I didn't have the time to do that very often. So, instead, I bought store-made marinated meats for the quick dinners and even Sunday Night Dinners, which were usually larger meals. I didn't just grab any type, however, I made sure the ingredients were ingredients I knew and were either organic meat or local meat.

This says buying already marinated meats and freezing them counts for a sunday dinner

Check out some of my favorite marinades you can make tonight!

Confession 8: I do not bake.

Not all moms are bakers; I'm one of the no-bake parents! I make the same cake recipe, or buy high-quality store-bought cakes. But, over the years, I have found dessert recipes that I truly love to make that are super easy. In a pinch, I do buy store-bought cakes and look at the label (affiliate) to make sure they don't contain too many processed ingredients. Feel free to check out my collection of desserts - I share Gluten-free, Dairy-free dessert options for the entire family.

Not all moms are bakers. I make the same cake recipe or buy already really good store bought cakes.

Confession 9: I love to use my gas grill.

For weeknight meals, using the gas grill has made clean up so much easier. It keeps the kitchen clean, and the house isn't warm after cooking. Plus, if I do a marinade, I can prep the night before and then place it on the grill the next night for dinner. Cooking time is short when I am grilling (affiliate) up meat and vegetables - usually less than 30 minutes.

gas grilling is my favorite. less mess after the meal to clean up.

Confession 10: I clean the sink after every use

Instead of cleaning the bathroom and kitchen sink once a week. I clean it after I finish my task. After I finish cleaning the dishes and pans, I clean the sink. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I clean the sink in the bathroom. It keeps the sinks cleaner more often when several people are using the bathroom and kitchen.

I clean the bathrom sink after every use so i don't have a huge mess at the end of the week.

Confession 11: I send appointments to my kids

When my kids got their phones and started having their activities, around middle school years, I started sending them appointments. This helped them know about doctors' appointments, days off, after-school activities, and band, orchestra/choir concerts. It took me a little time to add them to my calendar at the beginning of the year, but it was helpful throughout the year to keep the kids informed about their schedules. And I did not have to tell them each day what their activities were. Yay!

I send appoinments to my ids at the end of the summer with all the school activities they have off during the school year.

Confession 12: I love single-serve sizes

Lastly, over the years, I found that my kids would waste food and not want to eat all of something. So, I decided that for the extra cost of single-serve items, I can recycle the container, and my kids will eat all the food in that size. I like to buy products like hummus, guacamole, peanut butter, or nut butter. And, if the kids feel they are not up for these snacks, they will not spoil since they are not opened.

i buy single serving size hummus and guac. So I don't eat too much.

Well, I feel better voicing my confessions to you all. Let me know what you think. Do you agree with me on some or all of these confessions?

Now it is your turn. What are your confessions? Please leave a message below. I would love to hear from you.
