What do you need to eat when doing a Shot Diet?
Here is a list of the ingredients you should focus on when following the HG1 hormone shot diet.
Focus on lean protein to maintain muscle mass: Chicken, turkey, fish, lean beef, eggs, and beans (ease beans into your diet slowly; it may make you feel bloated and gassy).
Focus on non-starchy vegetables that are rich in nutrients and low in calories: Leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, and cucumbers.
Stick with whole grains to provide fiber and sustain energy: Eat oats, brown rice, and quinoa.
Eat Healthy fats to help you feel full and support overall health: avocado, nuts, and olive oil (affiliate).
And drinking water will help with dehydration because the medication can make you dehydrated.
If you haven't visited my blog before, you may not know that I did the Keto diet for years and have gluten and dairy intolerances, so many of my recipes fit into these recommended foods. I will share with you my favorite one-pot dishes to support your new healthy lifestyle.

What not to eat when on the Shot Diet plan
While these are all homemade recipes made from scratch, what you are not supposed to eat on this diet is key (affiliate) to success. This is not the time to overindulge. Below are tips on what not to eat.
Avoid high-fat foods.
Primarily those high in saturated fats, trans fats, or unhealthy processes - anything fried in oil. Examples include:
- Fried chicken,
- French fries,
- Fried mozzarella sticks
- Heavy cream
- Full-fat cheese
Get rid of high-sugar foods.
These foods may also taste differently to you and may not be appealing, making it easier to eliminate them from your diet. Examples are:
- Regular soda and soft drinks
- Sweet tea and lemonade
- Candy (affiliate) and candy (affiliate) bars
- White bread,
- Packaged sweets
- Fruit juices and juice cocktails
- Energy drinks
- Fruit drinks
- Sweetened juices,
- Sugary cereals
- Pastries, donuts, and muffins
- Pancake syrup
- Cookies, cakes, and brownies
- Ice cream
Do not eat ultra-processed foods.
These foods are designed to be highly palatable, convenient, and long-lasting, but are low in fiber and nutrients. They are usually packaged foods and are located in the center of the grocery store. Some examples are:
- Potato chips,
- Crackers,
- Granola bars,
- Energy bars,
- Hot dogs,
- Sausages,
- Deli meats,
- Chicken and fish nuggets,
- Some frozen foods like pizzas,
- Instant soups and instant noodles
Remove alcohol from your diet.
Alcohol can upset your stomach and cause blood sugar issues. If you combine alcohol with the shot, it can increase the risk of dangerous hypoglycemia plus other issues.
Limit highly refined carbohydrates.
Refined carbs are quickly broken down into sugar, causing rapid blood glucose spikes followed by crashes. Some examples include:
- White bread,
- Rolls,
- Bagels.
Instead, try brown or wild rice, quinoa, since white rice is processed more.
Avoid or limit spicy and high-fiber foods in large amounts.
You may need to limit spicy foods (which can contribute to heartburn) and certain high-fiber foods in large amounts. It's best to gradually increase the intake of beans, corn, and sweet potatoes.
Many of these foods worsen the side effects and can give you nausea and bloating because they can't be digested easily.
Conclusion
Creating a rotation of your favorite one-pot recipes weekly will make your meals more flavorful and vibrant. It will also allow you to enjoy the process of letting go of the excess fat without feeling like you are losing flavor in your diet.
