I will often update this post when I create new Playlists to help motivate readers and clients. Feel free to come back and check out the new playlists for various organizing tasks.

Not all music is created equal when it comes to helping improve productivity. Lyrical music can be more distracting while organizing or doing anything where you need to think more closely about what you are doing.

Use these playlists while doing these organizing projects to help you stay focused and get your organizing project done faster and more efficiently.

Organizing Your Kitchen Playlist to Stay Motivated

Organizing Your Kitchen Playlist on Spotify

The first playlist is for people who are organizing their kitchen. Keeping the music upbeat with minimal lyrics work best to give you energy but does not distract you from the task at hand.

This playlist was made on Spotify. Feel free to follow and listen.

But what Kitchen area should you organize while listening to this playlist?

Below are some kitchen areas and tips to organize while listening to this Organizing Your Kitchen Playlist.

On this blog, we do several DIY home organizing projects on Fridays, and below, we share some of these projects and tips on organizing other areas of the kitchen. Feel free to check them out.

Organizing Your Paper Files Playlist

Organizing Papers Playlist on Spotify

The second playlist is for organizing your papers. Since you will most likely be sitting down doing this, it will keep your energy up. Paper files can be overwhelming because it is very detailed work.

Classical music works nicely when organizing papers. It gives you something to listen to and allows you to focus on each piece of paper.

This playlist was made on Spotify. Feel free to listen and organize your papers.

Journaling Playlist

Update 2023: Another playlist you can use is this one while you are planning your day or week. It's great to journal (Affiliate Link) the night before to create a predetermined plan for the next day. If you like to write your thoughts and make this a true journal (Affiliate Link) activity each evening to relax, you can use this playlist as well for that purpose. I added several songs that were easy to listen to and had a smooth melody and beat so as not to distract you during your journaling.

What to do while listening to this journaling playlist?

There are several things you can do while listening to this playlist. Below are just some I found helpful.

  1. Make a grocery list.
  2. Create a to-do list for the week.
  3. Have quiet time and write your thoughts down.
  4. Go through your monthly calendar and label (Affiliate Link) the days with activities.
  5. Date and add tasks to your blank paper planner.
  6. Brainstorm the tasks for a project.

This playlist is 1 hour and will help you get any of these and other tasks completed quickly and with little distractions.

Listening to music is incredibly motivating when you have a larger project to do that will take more than an hour. Many people can handle a few hours of organizing. Still, when you go beyond that, the clarity on what to do becomes mucked up, resulting in distractions and procrastination on decisions.

Keeping yourself motivated will help your time run more smoothly and allow you to see the end of the tunnel and complete the project. I hope these playlists help you stay focused to finish your next project.

Music really motivates! Now for me, I can't listen to anything while there is deep thinking going on. I need total silence. For decluttering that involves more maintenance, I love listening to Broadway music. I am intrigued by the idea of classical music for paper decluttering. I might try that. Thanks for these great playlists and ideas!

As a music major and a choral singer now, I find most music difficult to have in the background - it always takes over my attention. Like Linda, I prefer not to use music like that. But for getting energized and moving, there's no beating upbeat stuff!

I miss mix-tapes! Just when I've mastered one style of playlist, some new technology or twist comes along and I'm back to square one. It's time for me to embrace my Spotify and do this.

Music is definitely incredibly motivating. I prefer music with lyrics, and for almost every other type of organizing, I'm going to sing along while I declutter. I'm just not a fan of instrumentals, or classical music in general, but I can't sort or pay attention to papers with podcasts or lyrics in my ears, so I'll have to try out your podcast then next time I'm organizing paper. Or just play my George Winston "December" CD, which I've had since college. 😉

How fun! My husband loves music. He has a playlist for when he's cooking. It's upbeat. When I hear it I know he's in the kitchen moving and shaking.

This is so fun! Just this weekend I told my husband I wanted to create a bunch of playlists, including one for cooking. I've noted it on my task list so I won't forget to do it when I get a chance. Thanks for the nudge!

I love how you included your favorite playlists for organizing kitchens and papers. Unlike you, I like quiet (as in no music) for these types of activities. I'm OK playing music if I'm cooking, baking, cleaning, or doing laundry, but organizing, writing, or planning, I like silence.

I grew up in a home where there was constant music. My mom was a pianist and piano teacher, my brother and sister played instruments, and there were always (or it felt that way) concerts, people practicing, jamming, or playing records.

In my own space, I prefer the quiet most of the time. It's not that we don't play music. My husband LOVES playing music. And when the kids were growing up, we played a lot of music. It's just not playing all of the time.

I love having music playing in the background when I'm doing most projects, including organizing. It definitely keeps my energy up, and it also keeps my brain from being distracted by random sounds taking place around me.

I once worked on paperwork with a client for 3 hours while listening to Gilbert and Sullivan, and then the next day worked with a client while listening to Irish pub music. Such variety, and both so fun!
